First of all, you need to take some aspects into consideration before buying a vacuum cleaner:

House area

If you have a big house, then you need to use a vacuum cleaner with a high capacity without having to dispose it repeatedly.

House structure

If you live in a  flat with several steps, villa or a duplex, then you need to consider buying a light vacuum cleaner, to carry it around easily.

Floor type

Is your house floor covered in moquette? Or partially in moquette and the rest is covered with carpets? Ceramic? Parquet? Are you going to use the vacuum cleaner to clean your curtains and wardrobe? You need to take all of this into consideration when deciding which vacuum cleaner to buy. So that you can pick one with accessories/attachments that suit your floor type.

Pets

If you have a cat or a dog, you need a vacuum cleaner with a brush and suction power to collect all the leftover hair on your carpets and floor, as well as all the unfavorable scents.

Cleaning times

You might have a small house, but you like to clean on a daily basis, which means you need a light vacuum cleaner to move around the house easily. You also need a high capacity vacuum cleaner so that it can work daily without any inconvenience.

Vacuum cleaner features to consider before buying

Bag or bag-less?

The vacuum cleaner collects the dust inside it somewhere, whether a bag or a basket like container. You can decide on which is better for you based on the following information:

  • The bag needs to be cleaned every once in a while and replaced every 6 months
  • The bag-less vacuum cleaner is usually more expensive than the vacuum cleaner that uses a bag, but what you saved will mostly be spent on replacing the bags.
  • The bag-less vacuum cleaner has filters that require cleaning and replacing on the long run.
  • Changing the filters is hectic and it generates a lot of dust in the air. If you suffer from allergy, then a vacuum cleaner with a bag is a better option for you.
  • A vacuum cleaner with bag has a bigger capacity than the bag-less ones.
  • If you are going to buy a vacuum cleaner with a bag, make sure it has a sensor to tell you when it is almost full.
  • The bag-less vacuum cleaner will make your life much easier than the ones with bags.

Types of filters

The filter is extremely important as it is the part through which the dust passes. It should be replaced every 6 months.

The types are as follows:

  • Multistage filter: consists of 3-7 stages of filtration
  • Long life filter: it doesn’t require frequent replacing and it lives for 7-10 years, which is the life span of the vacuum cleaner itself.
  • HEPA: it is perfect for anyone who suffers from allergies, as it is very accurate and it picks the tiniest particles in the air.
  • Coal filter: it gets rid of the undesirable scents and it is also suitable if you have pets.

Vacuum cleaner design

Traditional design

It is the most common design and it consists of two parts: one for the motor, while the other part is used to collect the dust through a hose connected to the suction accessory.

This design has the most powerful suction, as well as a high capacity for collecting the dust. It is relatively cheaper, among other vacuum cleaner that consist of a single part; however, it is more noisy. Another advantage is your ability to separate the suction arm from the motor, which makes it more flexible to move, so you can lift it up to clean the curtains, furniture, and stairs.

One part vacuum cleaner

  • It looks like a broom, with a motor to clean effortlessly
  • It is easier to move around, in comparison to the other ones, but it is not light, since the motor and the dust bag are in the same place
  • It doesn’t take a huge space for storage
  • It comes with many accessories/parts/attachments and features.

Robot vacuum cleaner

  • It has sensors to avoid crashing into furniture
  • It has a remote to control it easily without having to move
  • It is more expensive than most vacuum cleaners
  • You need to check the capacity and see if it is suitable for you or too small. Also keep in mind the number of hours needed to recharge it.

Vacuum cleaner accessories / attachments

  • The attachments are extremely important when you are at the decision taking phase, as those parts will allow you to clean more than just one type of flooring.
  • You need to ask yourself: Does it have arms for cleaning furniture and curtains? One for tight places? Brush for ceramic and another for parquet? Which parts do I really need?
  • Preferably the arms and attachments, should be stored in the body of the vacuum cleaner itself, so as not to get lost.
  • Even if you are going to buy the vacuum cleaner online from Yaoota, you’d better try it in store first or read lots of reviews about it first.
  • Try the vacuum cleaner on the floor to asses if it is flexible to move or not
  • Is it light enough to move it around the house? Is the arm flexible enough? Does the brush helps you move fast?
  • Try to get a vacuum cleaner, which you can control through buttons in the arm itself, for easier cleaning
  • Try the vacuum cleaner to determine whether it is noisy or not.
  • Having a button to collect the wire all at once is also a bonus. As the wire is usually long, which is helpful to move around easily, but it might cause you to fall over.  Therefore, a button to collect it with a single push is always preferable.
  • Some vacuum cleaners are wireless, which means you need to recharge it in order to operate. Choose the one that charges for a long time,  so you don’t have to rechareg it in the middle of the cleaning session.

Vacuum cleaner noise

  • As much as we love how helpful the vacuum cleaner is, as much as we hate the noise. You can try it in store first to check how noisy it is, or you can use this guide.
  • The noise of the vacuum cleaner is measured by a unit called Decibel (db)
  • If the vacuum cleaner db ranges from 60-65, this means it is very quiet
  • If it was above 70, then it is quite noisy

Suction power

The suction power is usually expressed in Ampere or Watt. To get a powerful vacuum cleaner, don’t choose it below 12 ampere or 200 watt.

How the brush works?

The old vacuum cleaners have brushes that don’t usually rotate, which means you have to move several times on the same spot to make sure it is clean. To save the effort and time, get a vacuum cleaner with a brush that moves separately with its own motor, to ease the cleaning process and remove all the stuck hair and dust.
