You may be surprised to learn that headphones are an old invention. They were invented in 1910 by Nathaniel Baldwin in his kitchen! He sent his invention to a U.S. Navy lieutenant as a prototype and the man was quite impressed, as we are now, by the device.

The Most Widespread Types of Headphones:
(1) Earbud Headphones
This type has been the most popular for years! Now, however, with the other types spreading out, earbuds have started to become less widely used.
They are elegant, small in size and fairly affordable. Downside? They cannot quite shut out the noise in public and crowded places; thus, listening to music or making/receiving calls become a little dissatisfying. Another minus for many is that earbuds are hard to stay in place in one’s ears; they keep falling out.

(2) In-Ear Headphones
Currently, this is the most popular type. They’re known for being the smallest in size among other headphone types, so they won’t take a lot of space to store and are easy to carry in your pocket or backpack. They don’t have any metal parts — they’re basically a wire that’s connected to two small headphone pieces — which results in the headphones being lightweight, too.
This type of headphones is called ‘in-ear’ because they go and fit inside the ear. This helps shut out noises and sounds, making listening to music a whole new experience. They come with plastic caps of different sizes that you can replace yourself so you can choose the ones most suitable for your ear. The worst downside for in-ear headphones is that they build up ear wax with time, potentially leading to ear problems.

They are also water-resistant, so they will be resistant to sweat, making them function for a longer time. (4) On-Ear Headphones
This is an over-the-head type of headphones: users wear the headphones on top for their heads and they go around it with it a steel part. The part that covers the ears is medium in size and is usually coated with leather. These parts are rested directly over the ear canal. On-ear headphones aren’t considered big enough to fully cover the ears.
One of the qualities of this type is its lightweight; it’s much lighter than over-ear headphones. As for its throwbacks, it doesn’t cancel out noise, as it doesn’t completely cover the ears, not to mention that it can slip off with frequent movement.

(5) Over-Ear Headphones
This type isn’t much different from the previous one. It’s an over-the-head type of headphones, too, but the main difference is that the two earpieces are larger in size, thus fully covering the ear to the extent that the ear doesn’t show underneath.
The most prominent features of this type are the noise-cancellation and the sound quality and clarity. On the other hand, the headphones are heavy, making portability difficult. Also, the high price makes it considered to be a luxurious product.
