Hamouda, graduated from Misr International University (MIU) with a major in Integrated Marketing Communication, has always been talented since her early years; when she finished university, she traveled to Lebanon to start her career, by taking a professional course by the famous makeup artist Samer Khouzami, now she is a certified makeup artist by the Samer Khouzami Institute. Hamouda depends mainly on her Instagram and facebook pages to promote her work.

Hamouda said, “2016 spring trends are different from the previous years, as we can see that electric blue, green blue, and the red lipstick are trendy. If you noticed in Dior and Celine runway fashion shows, they apply green and electric blue eye-shadow and eyeliner, as well as matte red lipstick.” She added that this spring trends are towards bold and wild colors, unlike the previous years where we used to see the earthy and pastel colors. Vampy lipstick, shimmery gold eye shadow, and bold eye lashes are also trendy for spring 2016 worldwide. Hamouda believes that Egypt won’t follow this trend, as bold as it is in the west; bold lipstick and colorful eyeliner can be trendy in Egypt, unlike green and blue eye-shadow.

“When it comes to blusher, your skin tone determines which colors you will be using. For example, warm skin, pinkish skin tone, can use rose shades, while cool skin tones, which is like most Egyptians (yellowish or olive), can use peachy or bronze blusher,” Hamouda explained. Yet she believes that earthy colors, as light shimmery, brown, bronze, coral, and light roses are the best solution for Olive skin or darker skin tones.

Foundation dos and don’ts:

As Hamouda explained, there are 2 makeup schools, the American school and the European school. The early American school used to emphasize the usage of many layers of thick foundation, while the European school was popular for the correction of face flaws.

  • Try the foundation on your jawline bone, not on your hands, to get the closest shade to your face and neck. Also, get the foundation color same as your skin, never lighter.
To make sure that you picked the right foundation shade, ask a friend of yours if they can recognize a change in your skin tone, other than the texture of the foundation itself; if they said no, then this is the right shade for you.
  • If you’re above 40, try to apply smooth foundation, so that it doesn’t show your face lines.
  • Apply moisturizer or primer before using the foundation
  • Apply loose powder after the foundation, or else it will form lines or cracks, which will mess up your look.

Contouring:

“Contouring has been there for years, but it became a trend a couple of years ago,” Hamouda hinted. It all goes to hiding your face flaws and highlighting the attractive parts. Hamouda explained that each face has a different contouring application; for example, the longer the face, the higher you apply the contouring line. If you have a big forehead, you can apply a dark contour line to make it look smaller.
As a rule, contouring should be in a number 3 shape, as you start from the forehead, then the cheek bones, and then the jawline. The second line is usually under the cheek bone exactly.

For people who have a pointy nose, you need to apply dark contour on the pointy end to make it seem less pointy. She added that the longer the lines on the noses sides, the longer your nose will look; so you can apply two dark lines on the sides of your nose, until the end of the nose bone only to avoid this issue.
Hamouda said that after applying the contour, you should apply the blush, then the highlighter to show the attractive parts of your face.

Eyebrows:

To know when your eyebrows should start and end, get a straw or a pen, put it beside your nose bridge, ending in the middle of your lips on a side and the other side ending at the end of your eyelid; this is where your eyebrows should end. Put the pen or the straw right next to your nose bone in a vertical position to know where you eyebrows should ideally start. Then if you wish you can fill in the missing parts with an eyebrow pen.

Concealer:

“Some people tend to add a concealer, lighter than their skin tone, to hide the black circles under the eye, unfortunately this shows the black circles even more,” Hamouda explained. She added an example to clarify, “If you wear a black under shirt, then a white blouse, the black undershirt will be visible, but if you wore a black shirt, it will be difficult to recognize it.” You can add a darker concealer to hide these annoying black circles. Hamouda said,”I like to apply red or orange concealer, blend it, then add the dark concealer/corrector, to get the original skin tone before adding the concealer.”
For puffy eyes, you can add concealer under your eye bags, not on your eye bags.

Eye Makeup:

Which makeup and lashes suit each eye shape?
Almond eyes: these people are lucky because they can go with whatever they like from lashes to makeup, everything suits them.
Circular eyes: these eyes look nice with eyeliner. If they would like to apply lashes, they should start adding short lashes near the eye drop, medium, then long or short long towards the end. We can’t apply lashes of the same length along the whole eye because this will make the eye look more circular.
Froggy eyes: preferably don’t add lashes, but if you want, you can add separate lashes to fill the gaps only. Smokey eye makeup would be perfect for you.
Droppy/sleepy eyes: for the eyeliner, start thin then make it thicker on your way to the outer edge, and you can also add a small upper wing. For the lashes, add short lashes near the eye drop, then medium or long at the edge, or medium at the end only. For the daily look, you can apply white eyeliner on your lower lid and apply mascara, or light eye shadow.
Hooded eyes: eyeliner same as droppy eyes. For the eyelashes start short, then medium, and end short, using individual lashes.

Eye Shadow:

When it comes to eye shadow, we have different schools: the Italian, the open banana, the Smokey eyes, and the cut crease schools.

The most popular are the Italian school, which suits all eye shapes, it starts with soft eye shadow near the tear drop, then it gets darker as we go, and it’s darker by the outer eye edge. And the Smokey eyes school, where you apply dark eye-shadow at the eyelids and go lighter as you go toward the eyebrows.

Lipstick:

As Hamouda said, there are 3 types of lipsticks: matte, satin, and glossy.
Matte: for healthy moisturized, non-dry lips
Satin: for dry lips
Glossy: for younger age/older age
People with warm skin tones can use apple red, pink, rose shades, and red wine lipsticks; while cool skin tones can use nudes, brownish pink or roses. If you’re a cool skinned person and you want to apply dark red lipstick, avoid brownish red colors as vampy; yet you can apply diva red. During the day, depend on light or natural colors. “Keep it as a rule, you must choose between having bold eyes or bold lips, both together would be rarely nice,” Hamouda hinted.
