Mechanism Of Action Of Candesartan & Amlodipine

• Candesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict.
• As a result, Candesartan relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
• Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx across cell membranes, with a greater effect on vascular smooth muscle cells. This causes vasodilation and a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance, thus lowering blood pressure.

Method Of Administration Of Unisia 8/5 Tablets

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
• You should try to take your daily dose at about the same time each day.
• You must continue to take the drug until your doctor tells you otherwise.
• Do not break the tablet in half
• You can take the tablet with or without food.

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Unisia 8/5 Tablets

• Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking amlodipine/candesartan if you have or have had any of the following conditions:

1. Recent heart attack
2. Heart failure

4. Low blood pressure (hypotension)
5. You are elderly and your dose needs to be increased
6. Liver or kidney problems, or are on dialysis
7. If you have recently had a kidney transplant
8. If you are vomiting, have recently had severe vomiting, or have diarrhea
9. If you have a disease of the adrenal gland called conn’s syndrome (also called primary Hyperaldosteronism)
10. If you have ever had a stroke

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. Amlodipine/candesartan may affect or be affected by other medicines, such as:

1. Ketoconazole, itraconazole (antifungal medicines)
2. Ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir (protease inhibitors used to treat HIV)

5. Verapamil, diltiazem (heart medicines)

Normal Ranges

• Normal: Blood pressure numbers of less than 120/80 mm Hg
• Elevated: is when readings consistently range from 120-129 systolic and less than 80 mm Hg diastolic.
• Hypertension Stage 1: is when blood pressure consistently ranges from 130-139 systolic or 80-89 mm Hg diastolic.
