Mechanism Of Action Of Esomeprazole

  • binds to H+/K+-exchanging ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, resulting in blockage of acid secretion

Therapeutic Indications Of Nexium 40mg Tablets

  • GERD: is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“food pipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause your symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
  • Esophagitis: inflammation that may damage tissues of the esophagus, the muscular tube that delivers food from your mouth to your stomach. Esophagitis can cause painful, difficult swallowing and chest pain.
  • Helicobacter Pylori Eradication by reducing its symptoms
  • Gastric or Duodenal Ulcers
  • Frequent Heartburn

Method Of Administration Of Nexium 40mg Tablets

  • To be taken as a whole tablet once daily before breakfast, unless another way is mentioned.
  • Tablets should never be crushed
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your nextdose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Nexium 40mg Tablets

  • Do not use Esomeprazole:
  1. If you are allergic to Esomeprazole or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
  2. If you are allergic to medicines containing other proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole or omeprazole).
  3. If you are taking a medicine containing nelfinavir (used to treat HIV infection).
  • You should let your doctor know:
  1. You have had a stomach ulcer or stomach surgery in the past.
  2. You have been taking treatment continuously for reflux or heartburn for 4 or more weeks.
  3. You have jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes) or severe liver problems.
  4. You have severe kidney problems.
  5. You are aged over 55 years and have new or recently changed reflux symptoms or need to take a non-prescription treatment for indigestion or heartburn every day.
  6. You have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to Esomeprazole that reduces stomach acid.
  7. You are due to have an endoscopy or a urea breath test.
  8. You are due to have a specific blood test (Chromogranin A).
  • Do not take this medicine if you are also taking a medicine containing nelfinavir (used to treat HIV infection).
  • You should specifically tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots).
  • Do not take this medicine with other medicines that limit the amount of acid produced in your stomach such as proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole or omeprazole) or an H2 antagonist (e.g. ranitidine or famotidine)
