Mechanism Of Action Of Amoxicillin & Clavulanic Acid

• Penicillin kills bacteria through the binding of the beta-lactam ring to DD-transpeptidase, inhibiting its cross-linking activity and preventing new cell wall formation. Without a cell wall, a bacterial cell is vulnerable to outside water and molecular pressures, which causes the cell to quickly die.
• Amoxicillin is similar to penicillin in its bactericidal action
• Clavulanic acid is in a class of medications called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It works by preventing bacteria from destroying amoxicillin.

Therapeutic Indications Of Megamox 1 Gm Tablets

• Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid is used in adults and children to treat the following infections:

1. the middle ear and sinus infections
2. Respiratory tract infections
3. Urinary tract infections
4. Skin and soft tissue infections including dental infections
5. Bone and joint infections

Method Of Administration Of Megamox 1 Gm Tablets

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Take with you a meal.
• Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.
• Space the doses evenly during the day, at least 4 hours apart. Do not take 2 doses in 1 hour.
• Do not take Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid for more than 2 weeks.
• Children aged 6 years or less should preferably be treated with Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid oral suspension or sachets. The tablets are not suitable for children weighing less than 25 kg
• For adults and children weighing 40 kg and over The usual dose is 1 tablet every 8 hours or 1 tablet every 12 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection.
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
