Please make sure your Macbook supports audio output via Mini DisplayPort‎.‎ Apple released its new Macbook Pro at the end of April‎,‎ 2010 with new Mini DisplayPort which transmits audio signal‎.‎ If your Macbook was made before that‎,‎ its Mini DisplayPort does not transmit audio signal‎.‎
