Issa Murad grew up in Palestine, Bethlehem. He learned Oud and Eastern song with his father and then at the National Conservatory Edward Said. After having taught the oud, maqâm and traditional songs in the centers of Bethlehem, Ramallah and Jericho, he settled in Paris in 2007 and obtained a Master's degree in ethnomusicology at the Sorbonne.Issa Murad participated in music courses in the United States with Simon Shahin. He was also a student and teacher of oud in Cairo (Arab Oud House). In 2001, he won the Marcel Khalifé Award for best oud performer in Palestine. In 2010, he represented Palestine at the International Oud Festival in Cairo. He will collaborate with the American University of Cairo (AUC) at the beginning of 2014 as a teacher in ethnomusicology, oriental music and oud.Oud and compositionWith her oud, Issa Murad accompanied artists from the very different worlds: Swedish singer Carola Haggkvist (pop), Aïcha Redhouane and her ensemble Al Adouar (Sufi music and songs of the Egyptian Nahda), Sister Marie Keyrouz and her Ensemble de la Peace (sacred music of the Eastern churches), the Jan Schumacher Quartet (contemporary jazz).He also had the honor of sharing the stage with Mahmoud Darwich during his poetry recital in Bethlehem in 2006.The music was for him a passport and allowed him to travel all over the world. To compose, Issa Murad draws as much from the Arab, Turkish, Balkan and Syriac heritage as from the Latin and jazz influences he has discovered in the light of artistic experiences.With her oud, Issa Murad accompanied artists from the very different worlds: Swedish singer Carola Haggkvist (pop), Aïcha Redhouane and her ensemble Al Adouar (Sufi music and songs of the Egyptian Nahda), Sister Marie Keyrouz and her Ensemble de la Peace (sacred music of the Eastern churches), the Jan Schumacher Quartet (contemporary jazz).In 2012, Issa Murad founded the project Joussour ("bridges" in Arabic), to give a new color to his compositions. He shares the stage with three jazzmen (double bass, drums and piano), an oriental percussionist and a ney bansouri player of the purest Indian tradition. The result is an aerial music that plays borders and invites to travel .
