• Indapamide has a dual mechanism of action: diuretic effect at the level of the distal tubule in the kidney and a direct vascular effect, both of which contribute to the antihypertensive efficacy of the drug. The SR formulation contains a hydrophilic matrix, which delivers a smoother pharmacokinetic profile.

Therapeutic Indications Of Natrilix 1.5 Mg SR Tablets

• Indapamide can be used for treating high blood pressure. It may be used on its own or in combination with other medicine for high blood pressure.
• Hypertension: high blood pressure is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.

Method Of Administration Of Natrilix 1.5 Mg SR Tablets

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Keep taking this medicine until your doctor tells you to stop. It may take several months before this medicine shows its full effect.
• Tablets can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water
• The usual dose is one tablet, once a day, taken in the morning
• Keep taking indapamide until your doctor tells you to stop taking it. Treatment for high blood pressure is usually life-long.
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Undesirable Side Effects Of Natrilix 1.5 Mg SR Tablets

• Angioedema and/or urticaria. Angioedema is characterized by swelling of the skin around the eyes, lips, tongue, hands, or feet. It may cause swelling of the throat, tongue, or airways resulting in shortness of breath or difficulty in swallowing.
• Severe skins reactions include intense skin rash, reddening of the skin over your whole body, severe itching, blistering, peeling, and swelling of the skin, inflammation of mucous membranes (stevens-johnson syndrome), flu-like symptoms, and fever or other allergic reactions
• Irregular heartbeat (torsade de pointes), which could be life-threatening
• Severe stomach pain which may reach through to your back. This could be a sign of pancreatitis
• Abnormal liver function (with symptoms such as tiredness, loss of appetite, feeling or being sick, swollen extremities, yellow skin). In cases of liver failure, there is a possibility of getting hepatic encephalopathy (liver problems that affect the brain and central nervous system).
• Tiredness, weakness, confusion, and muscles that ache, are stiff, or do not work well. This may be due to low sodium levels in your blood (hyponatremia)
• Irritability and your muscles twitch. This may be due to an imbalance in your blood called metabolic alkalosis
• Itchy, lumpy rash. You may also have a high temperature, sore throat, headache or diarrhea, more infections than usual or bruise more easily. This could be caused by problems with your blood.
• Increased thirst, hunger, and weight loss. These could be signs of diabetes.
• Photosensitivity reactions (change in skin appearance) after exposure to the sun or artificial uva have also been reported.
• Low potassium in the blood
• Low sodium in the blood may lead to dehydration and low blood pressure, increase in uric acid, a substance which may cause or worsen gout (painful joint(s) especially in the feet)
• Increase in blood glucose levels in diabetic patients

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Natrilix 1.5 Mg SR Tablets

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Blood Pressure

• To measure blood pressure correctly:

1. Don’t eat or drink anything 30 minutes before you take your blood pressure.
2. Empty your bladder before your reading.
3. Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported for at least 5 minutes before your reading.
4. Put both feet flat on the ground and keep your legs uncrossed.
5. Rest your arm with the cuff on a table at chest height.
6. Make sure the blood pressure cuff is snug but not too tight. The cuff should be against your bare skin, not over clothing.
7. Do not talk while your blood pressure is being measured.

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Natrilix 1.5 Mg SR Tablets

• Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking indapamide:

1. if you suffer from gout or have diabetes
2. if you have kidney problems
3. if you have an overactive parathyroid gland
4. if you have heart rhythm problems
5. if you have liver problems
6. if you experience a decrease in vision or eye pain. These could be symptoms of fluid accumulation in the vascular layer of the eye (choroidal effusion) or an increase of pressure in your eye and can happen within hours to weeks of taking indapamide. This can lead to permanent vision loss, if not treated.
7. If you earlier have had a penicillin or sulfonamide allergy, you can be at higher risk of developing this.

• Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, including herbal medicines. This is because indapamide can affect the way some medicines work. Also, some medicines can affect the way indapamide works.

Storage Conditions Of Natrilix 1.5 Mg SR Tablets

• Store below 25°c
• Don’t refrigerate
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

Normal Range

• Normal: Blood pressure numbers of less than 120/80 mm Hg
• Elevated: is when readings consistently range from 120-129 systolic and less than 80 mm Hg diastolic.
• Hypertension Stage 1: is when blood pressure consistently ranges from 130-139 systolic or 80-89 mm Hg diastolic.
• Hypertension Stage 2: is when blood pressure consistently ranges at 140/90 mm Hg or higher.
• Hypertensive crisis: This stage of high blood pressure requires medical attention. If your blood pressure readings suddenly exceed 180/120 mm Hg, wait five minutes and then test your blood pressure again. If your readings are still unusually high, contact your doctor immediately. You could be experiencing a hypertensive crisis.
