HTC U11

I get the feeling HTC thought all smartphones look the same, regardless of the manufacturer, the time of release or whatever factors one may want to consider while shopping for a phone. So HTC decided to bring something new into the market, a smartphone that has, all the features one can think of, then on top of that adds more interestingly new features. So HTC gives us the new 2017 HTC U11. This is an overview of the HTC U11.

Design and Build  

One of the selling points of the HTC u11 is its squeezable edge screens called edge sense that allows you to complete tasks or open apps depending on how you customize your u11. It is a handy feature and works well on the HTC u11.i appreciate HTC’s decision to bring a new feature with this phone. This to me is a wake-up call for other manufactures.  The tech used for this feature is pressure sensitivity. The HTC u11 stands at 153.9mm tall, 75.9mm wide and 7.9mm thick (Symmetrically slim from every angle). It weighs just 169 grams. It has a reflective back that is made of a liquid glass surface. To be honest, without this detail then the looks of this phone would not be impressive. But how the HTC u11 transforms light with every time you gold it or just have it on a flat surface face down gives it a stunning look. It has one camera with 2 dual LED flash(s) and HTC’s brand at the upper mid. Its face has a home button which is also a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint sensor is amazingly fast compared to the ones we have seen before on other phones, HTC included. The HTC u111 also features a lightly curved screen on both edges of its display panel.

Display

HTC U11’s 5.5 inch screen is a Super LCD5 capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors that supports multi touch, has a 1440 x 2560 pixels (~534 ppi pixel density) resolution and is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. In a 2017 flagship device you should expect the best screen displays which the HTC u11 nails. The u11 has a 71.4% screen-to-body ratio and having capacitive back and recent touch buttons on the bezel translates to more screen space.

Camera

Here is also another selling point of the u11. It has a 12 MP, f/1.7 with dual-LED (dual tone) flash primary camera and a 16 MP, f/2.0 selfie camera. The picture quality on the u11 is a mega update of other cameras we see in the market today. Colors are natural and re well represented. On the camera section, the HTC u11 shines and is years ahead of its competitors. However I have to note the time it takes to launch the camera app and shoot that first pic is a bit of a lag. But this really is an issue that will be or can be addressed with a software update.

The HTC u11 is a game changer when it comes to video recording. Bringing in new features that other manufactures haven’t even thought of. To start with, video recording is up to 4K. It also has an audio mode feature that allows you to zoom into an object you want to record an audio from and automatically amplifies its sound. Amazing. And it does work perfectly. Another feature is it can record 360 degree sound, yes all round. Ask me, I would buy this phone and use it as a professional camera.

Oh and did I mention the HTC u11 is ip67 water resistant? Well, now you know. Why have an amazing camera you cannot use say while deep sea diving for example? Or just swimming?

Performance and Memory

HTC u11 has Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, an Octa-core (4×2.45 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) and Adreno 540. This is a powerhouse.

It comes in two variants, 64 GB internal with 4GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory that runs on 6GB of RAM. Of course, with such specs you should expect the best of performance from the HTC u11.

Battery

The u11 has a non-removable 3000mAh battery with an endurance rating of 73 hours.  The u11 supports Quick Charge 3.0.

Connectivity and Network

U11 supports Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2 and comes with a 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.

Network: u11 supports GSM, HSPA and LTE.

Sound

Best sound quality. Period!

This is what the u11 offers. Fine output with HTC BOOM SOUND. The good old 3.5mm jack is missing on the HTC u11 though. But for a greater good says HTC. There however is an option for a connector which HTC gives in its package for 3.5mm jack pin. But without that one connects to the type C port.

The HTC u11 is as good as it gets since it was announced. It has nailed the main smartphone like battery life, camera, video and has also brought fourth it new edge sense feature. This phone is an upgrade package.
