Sound Quality 

For a product no bigger than a single Logitech Satellite Speaker the sound quality is remarkable. At full volume it is audible in an entire small apartment, and decent mid’s and high’s can be heard. The device output via two 2W Speakers running in Stereo.

Connectivity 

This is possibly the biggest selling point of the DBS-2012.

Bluetooth? Yes sure it has that, MicroSD? Yup, that too. Oh wait.. Theres still more.

The DBS-2012 has a full set of connectivity including USB Disk, AUX, Bluetooth and MicroSD. The only thing lacking is a FM Radio (included in the DBS-3012) which shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Using either USB/AUX/mSD is as simple as connecting the input source and selecting the Mode button on top of the device.I was able to pair my Galaxy Note 3 to it via bluetooth with no issues whatsoever, and the experience was great. Using the physical buttons on the device (Such as Pause/Play, V+, V-) also effected the playback on Play Music which was a relief to see working out of the box.

Battery 

The only element of the DBS-2012 that is lacking is it’s battery. Running time is anywhere between 3 and 4 hours regardless of Volume. Some people could see it as a strong disadvantage, but on the other hand at its price point a large capacity battery can’t be expected. The device is however able to run on a standard microUSB charger so there is no need for a proprietary charger.

Build Quality 

The build quality is exactly what I’ve come to expect from D-Link’s lower end devices. Attractive, Robust and well.. Plastic. That might sound like a complaint, but it is far from it. The fact that it is plastic makes it light weight, coming in at only 358 grams (Less than an iPad). This makes the DBS-2012 perfect for travel. The device suffers from no flexing at all, and feels good in hand.
