About this product

  • Eplerenone is an aldosterone antagonist that prevents it from binding to mineralocorticoid receptors in the kidneys, heart and blood vessels in the brain.
  • Lowering blood pressure by excretion of increased amounts of sodium and water from the body, while potassium is retained, eplerenone acts both as a diuretic and an antihypertensive drug by this mechanism.

Dosage and method of use:

Adults:

Usual Adult Dose for Heart Failure After a Heart Attack:

  • Initial dose: 25 mg orally once daily.
  • The dose should be gradually increased to 50 mg over four weeks depending on the patient's response.

Usual Adult Dose for High Blood Pressure:

  • The dose is 50 mg orally once daily.
  • Patients whose blood pressure does not improve, the dose may be increased to 50 mg twice daily.

Dosage adjustment in case of kidney disease:

  • Do not use the medicine if the creatinine clearance is equal to or less than 30 ml/min.

It is contraindicated to treat high blood pressure in the following cases:

  • Blood creatinine is greater than 2 mg/dL in men, and higher than 1.8 mg/dL in women.
  • Creatinine clearance less than 50 ml/min.

Adjusting the dose in case of liver disease:

  • In mild to moderate hepatic failure: No change in doses is required.
  • In severe liver failure: The use of the drug in these patients has not been studied.
  • When using the drug to treat high blood pressure with concomitant use with weak CYP3A-inhibiting drugs such as erythromycin and fluconazole, the initial dose should be reduced to 25 mg once daily.
  • If the drug is used to treat heart failure after a heart attack, the dose should be adjusted according to the level of potassium in the blood.

Indications:

  • A diuretic that helps the body get rid of excess water.
  • High pressure treatment.
  • Adjunctive therapy in cases of heart failure.
  • Treatment of cases of liver and kidney failure, which are accompanied by water retention inside the body and collecting in the feet and extremities, such as dropsy.
