انتحر مؤسس علم التحليل النفسي "سيجموند فرويد" بعد أن طلب جرعة قاتلة من المورفين من طبيبه أثناء وجوده في المنفى في إنجلترا في عام 1939، لينهي معركة طويلة خاضها ضد مرض سرطان الفم.

في نفس التوقيت صدر في مصر كتاب عن "التحليل النفسي" بقلم أول عربي يمارس التحليل النفسي وهو "شكري أفندي جرجس"، وهذا الكتاب هو ثاني الكتب العربية في مجال "التحليل النفسي" وقد سبقه بعامين الكتاب الأول لنفس الكاتب وهو "طريقة العلاج بالتحليل النفسي" الذي صدر في القاهرة في عام 1937، وكان شكري جرجس معلما يجيد الإنجليزية ويقرأ كثيرا في علم النفس والتحليل النفسي، وافتتن بنظريات الطب النفسي فأصدر فيها ستة كتب، وقد صدرت هذه الكتب خلال عشر سنوات من 1929، وحتى 1939، بعدها صمت المؤلف حتى رحيله في عام 1945
