أخذه القاربُ ويسرحُ به في نيلٍ طويلٍ ممتدٍ من السماء، زهور ميتة على الجانبيْن، كيف تموتُ الزهور، وهي تنمو على شاطئ النيل؟! لم يسأل نفسه هذا السؤال، وإن كان قد فعل، ومد يده وأخذَ حفنةً من الماء، لعَرِفَ أنها مالحة، شديدة الملوحة. أشجار وعصافير وبشر، ولا صوت؟ هو لم يحاول أن يسترقَ السمعَ، حتى يصلَ إلى كوخه، يفرحُ عندما يرسو القاربُ أمامه، صحيح أنه من الخوصِ، ولكنه يحميه من أفكاره، يدخلُ ويغلقُ الباب عليه، يأكلُ كسرة خبز، ويشربُ ماءً لم يعد له طعم، ويتحاشى السؤال عن الحياةِ من حوله، لا يحاولُ النظرَ من الكوّة المفتوحةِ في الجدار، ولو فعلَ لرأى عماراتٍ شاهقة وسمعَ صوتَ العرباتِ الفارهة، وضحكات الرجال حُمر الوجوه .. لو فعلَ لانكسر القاربُ .. وانقطعتْ الأحلام.
