Aristotle said: “Philosophy begins with wonder.” That is childish wonder, as many claim, but this claim cannot be true unless we mean by philosophy the meaning that the ancient Greeks aimed for, which is defining philosophy as “science.” Children are researchers from an early age. They have nails, but they are not philosophers. The explanation for this is that their childish curiosity is directed towards the natural sciences. Children want to know how the world works, so they ask why darkness falls, or where the wind goes when its squeaking stops?!They are trying to know all of this, even before they ask about the existence of God or the meaning of justice.
