Huawei GR5 Pros

  4. Unfortunately, 9.7 GB only are free from the internal memory which is a very limited storage but you can add an external memory card to expand your storage.
  5. There’s no protective coating on the screen.
  6. It takes almost 3 hours to recharge which is a long time.

  • The design is metal and elegant; the volume and power buttons are made of metal.
  • You will notice that the back side is made of metal (Aluminum and Magnesium) except for the top and lower parts that are made of plastic, because of the consideration of networks communication.
  • The phone’s edges are rounded which makes the device looks smaller and easy to use with one hand.



Fingerprint sensor

  • There is a fingerprint sensor at the back of Huawei GR5.
  • It is very accurate and responsive.
  • You can control it based on how you touch the sensor (a single tap or swiping from up to down)… in addition to the possibility of setting several fingerprints.
  • You can lock the device with one touch of a pre-defined fingerprint.
  • You can set another fingerprint to open a specific application.
  • You can set calling a contact to a fingerprint, for example, the ring finger to call a specific contact with just one touch on the fingerprint sensor even if the device is locked.
  • It can also be used to go back, capture pictures and also to show notifications.
  • When double tapping the fingerprint sensor, you can close the notifications in the notification bar and you can also stop the alarm with a fingerprint.


  • The speakers are located at the bottom of the phone and not in the back, so when being put on a plane surface the sound won’t be muted (the speakers are on both sides of the USB slot to connect the phone with the charger).
  • The sound is average as for playing songs and audios in general but the sound during calls is very good.
  • Huawei GR5 supports a noise-canceling microphone.



  • 5.5 inches FHD screen of quality 1920* 1080 pixels, 401 ppi pixel density.
  • The colors are clear, the brightness is good, the details are clear and also the viewing angle is good.
  • The screen is convenient for watching movies and videos.
  • There’s no protective coating on the screen.
  • There is a black frame surrounding the screen, and it’s not considered as a flaw but some people don’t like any screen frames.


  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 616, Octa-core processor (Quad-core 1.5 GHz and Quad-core 1.2 GHz) and 2 GB RAM.
  • Cons: the device consumes much space of the RAM when running applications.
  • Huawei GR5 comes with Adreno 405 graphics card that enable you to play advanced games with no problem with graphics, the Adreno 405 is a good feature in this price range.
  • It runs with the operating system Android 5.1 lollipop.
  • 16 GB internal storage with 9.7 GB only left after deducting the operating system’s capacity.
  • You can add external memory for up to 128 GB.
  • Despite the good performance, there is a delay for like 2 seconds to open heavy applications and it also suffers a slight slowdown when moving between applications.
  • The phone gets hot with heavy use but it is not that bad.



Rear camera

  • 13 MP with LED flash.
  • Capturing pictures in good lighting gives good pictures, while in low light; it gives pictures of low quality. It can record videos of quality 1080p @30fps.
  • The camera supports autofocus, face detection, panorama mode, HDR mode and digital zoom.
  • The rear camera protrudes a little.

Front-facing camera

  • 5 MP that gives good selfies but it’s not spectacular.


  • 3000 mAh non-removable battery.
  • The battery life of Huawei GR5 is almost 7.5 hours of heavy use.
  • Huawei GR5 takes almost 3 hours to recharge.
