The functions are the same as of the original canon bg-e8. Buttons include full press/ half press shutter release, af button, exposure lock, dial wheel and battery grip on/off button.

It can hold six size aa / lr6 alkaline batteries or 1-2 lp-e8 li-ion batteries, doubling the battery capacity of your camera. The shutter release button on the battery grip makes shooting with the camera in a vertical position much easier, adding stability to the camera.
