Visualize the works, struggles, and thoughts of a middle school student. Now, add an average household of a middle school student. Compress that all into one book. A diary to be exact. That’s what this whole series is based on, a diary, Diary of a Wimpy Kid to be exact, a fairly popular book for children and teenagers. I would recommend the book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck because in this book series, the author tries to make his writing style have a significant effect towards the book, and the author also makes it easy to understand the narrator’s thoughts through thorough implementation of time (pace) into the first person perspective. The plot and characterization, especially the development, really hooked me in because it mainly…show more content…One part of Jeff Kinney’s writing style that I appreciate is how he set the mood and scene of a middle school and a middle school student, which makes it feel like the book sounds like an actual diary. The genre Jeff Kinney used was another type of writing style I appreciated. He specifically used realistic fiction because he probably wanted to express his own experience of middle school into a book, and the struggles he probably faced as well. One more writing style Kinney used was implementing pictures (sketches) of the main character and his family, because the picture helps the reader visualize and apply the drawing onto the text. Also, the time and pace of the book series, overall, slows down and moves faster when the main character, Greg, runs out of ideas to add to his diary, or has a lot to talk about. Syntax, figurative language, and diction can also be a writing style, since the variety of sentence length, diction, and sentence structure can help portray how a middle school student writes. One last writing style implemented decently into the story is figurative language, whereas Greg can show sarcasm when talking to his friends with hyperboles, similes and metaphors. The book, overall, uses a variety of writing styles & techniques, and therefore, it hooked me into reading it.
