كريم ثابت شخصية مثيرة للجدل، لا يعرف على وجه الدقة كيف نجح كصحفي لأن يصبح مستشارا صحفيا للملك فاروق في الفترة من 1942 إلي 1952 ؟

 وقد شهد علي سقوط الملك – والحقبة الملكية -  بل وراح ضحية موقعه وقربه من الملك إذ قبض علية الضباط الأحرار وسجن لفترة طويلة ، وأثناء السجن كتب مذكراته عن في القصر الملكي والملك فاروق وأخلاقه وطباعه ، وبالرغم أن هذه المذكرات لم تنشر في حينها، وإنما نشرت في نهاية التسعينيات من القرن الماضي، إلا أنها أثارت جدلا واسعا نظرا لتشكيك البعض ممن عاصروا الأحداث ذاتها فيما ذكره فيها ، وقد صدرت عام 2000 ، بتقديم الكاتب الكبير محمد حسنين هيكل ، مما وسع من دائر الجدل والتشكيك في صحة ما جاء فيها .
