* Indications:
CEFACLOR is indicated in the treatment of a wide variety of infections caused by susceptible bacteria as in:
- Respiratory tract infections: acute bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia and bronchopneumonia.
- ENT infections: otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
- Genitourinary tract infections: pyelonephritis, cystitis and gonorrhea.
- Skin and soft tissue infections: cellulitis, abscess, carbuncles, furunculosis, pyoderma and infected burns and wounds.
* Dosage:
# Adults:
- One capsule 250 mg or 5 mL of suspension (250 mg) every 8 hours.
- In severe infections, one capsule 500 mg every 8 hours. The total daily dose should not exceed 4 g.
# Infants and children:
- 20 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours.
- In severe infections and otitis media, 40 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours. The total daily dose should not
exceed 1 g.
- In otitis media and pharyngitis, the total daily dose of suspension may be divided in two doses and administered every
12 hours.
- Oral suspension should be shaken well before dosing.
* Directions for reconstitution of oral suspension:
To obtain 60 mL, the bottle is (shaken) tapped lightly to loosen the powder. Add water gradually with shaking well until
reconstituted suspension is at level with the mark on the bottle. The resultant suspension will provide 250 mg
of cefaclor activity per 5 mL, and is stable for 14 days when kept under refrigeration (4 oC) or 7 days at room temperature not
exceeding 30 oC.
* Shake Well before use.
* Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.
* Precautions:
CEFACLOR should be used with caution in patients with severe renal impairment.
* Pregnancy and Lactation:
Preparations containing cephalosporins are used during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly indicated.
* Store at temperature not exceeding 30 degrees C away from moisture.
