Chemical composition and pharmacological properties

Fipronil and diflubenzuron (insect growth regulator) are components of the collar with significant effect on larval and mature development phases of fleas, sucking lice, lice and ixodic ticks parasitizing dogs and cats. Active ingredients are transmitted to animal pelage and skin gradually exuding from the collar surface. Fipronil does not absorb into systemic blood, accumulates in animal epidermis, hair bulbs and sebaceous glands. Exuding to skin surface along with gland secretion, it provides long-term contact and intestinal insecticidal acaricidal effect. Insect growth regulator inhibits cover tissue growth in parasites by violating larval development in egg and larval molting, prevents growth of appropriate nymphs causing death of insects and ticks on preimaginal development phases.

Indications

Use for treatment and prevention of canine and feline entomosis (fleas, sucking lice and lice) and ixodic ticks.

Contraindications

Do not use in pregnant (the last trimester) and lactating females, contagious and recovering animals, as well as in puppies and kittens under 2 months old.

Administration

After unpacking roll out a collar and wear it on animal, adjust for size so as to leave a space (1.0-1.5 cm) between the neck and collar, then pass a free end through a fixator and cut out an excess. Constant use of Bars fleas and ticks collar ensures protection of dogs and cats from fleas, sucking lice, lice and ixodic ticks within 4 months. On the first days of use ixodic ticks may attack and attach to an animal, but in a day parasites will die and will dry up or naturally will drop out.

Adverse events

Due to increased individual sensitivity to fipronil, individual reactions are rarely possible (excess salivation, lacrimation, muscular shivering, vomiting, skin irritation). In such cases stop collar use immediately.
