| About the Author: | WALTER J. WOJTANIK was born and raised in the steel city of Lackawanna, New York, a southern suburb of Buffalo. His strengths are drawn from his family, are grounded in his faith and supported by a group of loyal friends who have stood by him in the course of time. Both of his parents, Walter E. and Irene Wojtanik, were creative in their own right, traits Walter had gladly "inherited". The introduction of a console organ to the family dynamic in his tenth year, allowed Walter to experiment, developing an interest in composition. In adding words to his melodies, a poet was born. A debilitating shyness plagued him through his formative years, but a Creative Writing class in High School shook his foundation and brought out his powers of observation and his sarcastic wit from which, thankfully he has never recovered. |

| Book Description: | Walter J Wojtanik found his start in wood, a byproduct of trees. It was providence, or at least a crafty pre-determination. And when we think of trees, we imagine the strong and deep roots that form their foundation. Solid and grounded, a tree grows to stand proud and strong because of this base. He came to find his voice through words and himself rooted in wood. Walter dabbles in poetry and carpentry. It always comes back to trees. "WOOD" carries a great significance for him. It was chosen as the title for two reasons. First, the majority of the poems in this chapbook is about his father, Walter Edwin Wojtanik, who was a gifted craftsman and carpenter who made amazing creations with wood. Secondly, the Wojtanik family lived in their ancestral home that was on Wood Street. Through his journey in poetry, Walter has tried to make a correlation between his adeptness with words as well as with woods. And it has allowed him to reconcile the conflicts in which he and his father engaged, finally to accept his share of the blame for them. This is Walter's first collection of his work. |
