Jumbo's Description

A QUICK GLANCE

The Mate 8, sports a large 6-inch, 1080p LCD display like the Mate 7, with an equally gigantic 4000mAh battery to boot. Combined with the phone's small bezels, the large screen on the Mate 8 manages to bring its screen-to-bezel ratio up to 83 percent.

It comes with the latest version of Android (v6.0 Marshmallow), and Huawei has added its much improved Emotion UI v4.0 as the UI layer.

The Mate 8 features the brand-new Kirin 950 system. The Kirin 950 contains a CPU with four 2.3 GHz cores and four 1.8 GHz cores, as well as a Mali T880MP4 900 MHz GPU.

Additionally, the Mate 8 includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, with the option to add more using its microSD slot that doubles as a dual-SIM tray.

The rear camera is equipped with a 16MP sensor with optical image stabilization, while the front camera has an 8MP sensor.

Mate 8 has slightly tweaked the ergonomics by giving it a larger curve on the back of the device resulting in edges that are thinner, making the device easier to hold.

The two speaker grills on the base of the phone are bigger than you would find on most devices however, remain subtle and unobtrusive.

When speaking of the camera, we see the introduction of a new sensor module from Sony. The IMX298 is a new 1/2.8" 16MP unit with 1.12µm pixels and phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) pixels. The optics on the camera module offer a F/2.0 aperture lens and also offers optical image stabilization (OIS) with up to 1.5° angle of movement. On the front-facing camera we see an 8MP shooter, most likely the same sensor and module configuration found on the Mate S.

Huawei MATE 8 also allows fast charging, promising it can charge up to 37% charge in 30 minutes.
