For One Hundred and fifty years ago the islanders have hand manufactured a special cloth, that has become well known world over as Harris Tweed. The wool is coloured with natural dyes from local plants. The tweed, is protected by the UK House of Parliament, and was given its orb mark and the Harris Tweed Authority - which lays down guidelines for the manufacturing process. All of the cloth is examined for approval before it's stamped with the orb mark.

Every 50 yards produced is inspected and approved by the authority before it’s granted the orb mark.
