BARCELONA, Spain -- The Lenovo S660 is a amazing phone designed to feel like a device twice that price. And in my brief time with the device, it seemed to do a fairly believable impression.
The S660's 4.7-inch IPS screen fits a 960x540 resolution display. Obviously not the highest phone resolution, but the smaller-than-average screen does a good job of balancing the trade-off in ultra sharpness compared to more expensive phones
The phone houses a 1.3GHz quad-core Mediatek processor of unknown specificity as its brains and it's at least fast enough to make menus and apps swipe by at a zippy rate.
The phone includes 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. There's a microSD storage slot that's compatible with up to 32GB cards. An 8-megapixel camera sits on the back with a 0.3-megapixel front camera.
The S660 supports dual SIM and features a purportedly long battery life. Its removable brushed metal backside feels comfortable in my hands and comes off easily, revealing a removable battery. Under scrutiny, the design won't convince most users that they're handling a high-end device, but for those of us whom value affordability over the latest and best, it won't matter as much.
Lenovo says the phone, along with its more premium brethren, the S860 and S850, will be available in select markets in June. Look for more coverage around release time.
